What are show plates?
A show plate is a personalised plate made for display rather than road use — car shows, meets, exhibitions, photoshoots and static display. Because it is not intended for the public road, the usual restrictions on shape, background and effects do not apply in the same way, which is what makes show plates so popular with enthusiasts.
Every show plate we make is clearly supplied as a show or display plate. Fitting a show plate to a vehicle used on UK public roads can result in a fine and a failed MOT, so please keep them for off-road use.
Show plate options
- Shapes — standard oblong, short 16" and 18", hexagonal and the drip design.
- Character styles — standard printed, 3D gel, 4D 3mm, 4D Bevelled and 4D gel.
- Ghost plates — low-contrast tone-on-tone characters for a stealth look.
- Tinted plates — a smoked plate face with your choice of character style.
- Borders — printed or 4D oblong borders to frame the plate.
Ordering a show plate
Open the builder, enter the text or registration you want, then choose your shape, style and finish. The preview updates as you go so you can see exactly what you are buying. Show plate orders do not need V5C documents.
Next-day UK delivery available, with free delivery on orders over £55 (£5.99 below that), and same-day dispatch on orders placed before 12:00 PM Monday to Saturday.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a show plate and a road legal plate?
A road legal plate is made to the British Standard for UK road use, with the correct font, character sizes, spacing and supplier markings. A show plate is made for off-road display and can use character styles, tints, effects or configurations that do not meet the road-use specification.
Can I use a show plate on the road?
No. Show plates are supplied for off-road display only. Using one on a UK public road risks a fine and an MOT failure.
Do you need documents for a show plate?
No. We only request V5C and photo ID for road legal plates. Show plate orders go straight into production.
Can I order a front plate or rear plate only?
Yes. In the plate builder you can choose Front Only, Rear Only, a matching pair, or a Mix & Match pair where the front and rear are built to different specifications.
How quickly will my plates be delivered?
Next-day UK delivery available, with free delivery on orders over £55. Next day delivery is £5.99 on orders under £55. Order before 12:00 PM Monday to Saturday for same-day dispatch — orders after 12:00 PM or on Sundays are dispatched the next working day.
